Glossary of Terms

Bluetooth is a standard for the short range wireless interconnection of electronic devices.

Mesh network is the network of wireless connections between devices that cooperate with one another to efficiently route data. This allows you to control any device from anywhere in the system. KASTA is a mesh network.

Multi-way switching is the interconnection of two or more electrical switches to control an electrical load from more than one location. It allows lighting to be controlled from multiple locations in stairwells or corridors. KASTA allows for wireless multi-way switching.

Scene – A single command sent to multiple devices at once where each device can have a unique predetermined setting such as ON, OFF or 50% brightness.

Device – A device is an electrical installation, such as a light or a fan.

Group – a group of devices that can be controlled as one.

Room – an area that can be controlled independently. A photo of the space can be used to illustrate this area on the app.

RGB – stands for red, green, blue and refers to a colour changing light source.

CCT – stands for correlated colour temperature. Colour temperature is the shade of white a light emits. Lights are ‘warm white’, ‘neutral white’ or ‘cool white’ based on this measure. It is derived from the colour produced when heating a black body. As you raise the temperature the black body produces first a reddish glow, giving way to oranges and yellows, and then finally to blues. These temperatures are measured in the Kelvin (K) scale, with 3000k warm white, 4000K neutral white and 6000k cool white. Oddly, this means the high temperatures of 6000K are called cool and the lower ones of 3000K warm because we associate red with warmth and blue with cool.

Timer – The timer allows you to fix the time an individual device runs for.

Schedule – The schedule allows you to program when multiple devices come on and off to fit in with a schedule, such as having lights always come on to wake you up.

Smart Dimmer Module – Smart wireless lighting dimmer that fits in behind a standard wall plate and connects to a momentary button. It can be manually operated, controlled via the free KASTA app or programmed for automated operation.

Smart Dimmer Mechanism – Smart wireless LED lighting dimmer that clips into a standard wall plate. It can be manually operated, controlled via the free KASTA app or programmed for automated operation.

Smart Battery Powered Remote Switch Mechanism – Smart wireless remote switch that clips into a standard wall plate. It can be manually operated, controlled via the free KASTA app or programmed for automated operation.

Smart Switch Mechanism – Smart wireless switch that clips into a standard wall plate. It can be manually operated, controlled via the free KASTA app or programmed for automated operation.

Smart Switch Module – Smart wireless switch that fits in behind a standard wall plate and connects to a momentary button. It can be manually operated, controlled via the free KASTA app or programmed for automated operation.
