Smart Lighting for a modern workplace

TMK Consulting Engineers, a proudly South Australian firm, has continued to grow steadily, with the company recently celebrating its 40th year in business. This prompted a major renovation to the office space, transforming the area into a collaborative workspace. The redesigned space now features 117 workstations, new meeting rooms, and an additional purpose-built boardroom complete with integrated lighting control and AV systems to support the current growth of the company.

General Office Lighting – Haneco Matrix G4 Panels

TMK’s general office areas were upgraded with Haneco MATRIX G4 Panels. These lighting panels were selected for their low glare, uniform illumination, and compliance with AS1680 lighting standards. Consistent, high-quality light was essential for TMK’s engineering team, supporting both comfort and precision in detailed engineering design work.

MATRIX G4 panels deliver a balanced combination of performance and efficiency.

With a UGR of less than 19, they minimise glare and eye strain, creating a comfortable environment for extended work hours. Their exceptional uniformity and brightness promote focus and reduce fatigue across the workspace.

The panels also achieve over 110 lumens per watt in efficacy, significantly improving energy efficiency and reducing operating costs.

A high colour rendering index (CRI above 90) ensures true-to-life colour accuracy, while tri-tone and power-switchable settings allow light levels and colour temperature to be easily adjusted to suit different tasks. In addition, the panels contribute to Greenstar compliance, supporting TMK’s commitment to sustainable building practices.

The KASTA’s Solution

The boardroom is fitted with Kasta Bluetooth lighting control technology. The system enables dynamic, user-friendly scene programming to balance energy efficiency, comfort, and visual appeal.

Standby Mode:
During office hours when unoccupied, partial lighting remains active to create ambience and presence. The illuminated entry archway and softly glowing pendant and wall lights provide warmth and safe movement (minimum 20 lux) for staff using nearby facilities.

Presentation Mode
For client presentations or open discussions, lighting softens to minimise distractions and maintain a professional tone—fostering confident communication and engagement.

Meeting Mode
Lighting elevates to maximum brightness to support focus, visibility, and collaboration during active discussions.

Meeting Mode Screen-time Mode:
For video presentations, the archway remains soflty illuminated to maintain depth and colour contrast, while the rest of the room dims for visual comfort and immersive screen viewing.

Off Mode (Scheduled):
Outside office hours, lighting ia automatically shut down via the KASTA app for sustainibility and operational efficiency. Each morning, lights gradually return to standby mode to create a welcoming start of the day.

Energy Effectiveness:
The combination of LED fiittings and automated control scheduling significantly reduces energy use. The result is a lighting system that achieves high visual quality while minimising environmental impact.
